We have owned, bred, exhibited & loved Cavaliers for 39 years, with multiple home-bred Champions carrying our "TELVARA" Affix. Our emphasis is on health, longevity & temperament, alongside beauty and correct breed type in each of the 4 colours. For the last 36 years I've regularly judged Cavaliers, including many assignments world-wide at International level, and have held several CKCS Club Committee positions, including Regional CKCS Club Chairman, Health Representative, Show Manager, and currently serving as a Committee member of the main CKCS Parent Club in the UK. All our Cavaliers are house pets, and we breed selectively, with 1 or 2 very carefully planned litters born here each year. Our puppies are of course home reared, health checked, bred only from DNA hereditary clear parents (CC/DE and EFS)... fully socialised, Microchipped, Insured, KC Registered etc, and these babies go to their new family homes with a 12 month Diet Sheet, a Puppy Pack, a 5 Generation Pedigree, but most importantly, we offer a lifetime of support to the owners of every precious puppy bred by us at "Telvara". Raise your glass in a toast to‘Sasha’

who is Telvara Kandice Marie. She is a special little lady who in 1993 was featured in the CKCSC Championship Year Book after winning Best Puppy in Show at their Championship Show. All Cavaliers are precious but as I said, 'Sasha' is special. Why you may ask? Well,'Sasha' is now the grand age of 17 years, 8 months. Veronica Hull her breeder is extremely proud of her. She writes “As you will see, her once rich chestnut markings are now almost white with age (a sort of blonde to be honest!) but she enjoys her life to the full with no need for medication whatsoever. Food is her passion and she LOVES to eat, and has a great quality of life. I retired ‘Sasha’ for maternal duties after she won her 1st CC (and BIS), and bred her to Ch Telvara Karbon Kopy. In that first litter she produced Telvara Top Kopy who went to Karen Ostmann in the USA at 13 months of age, where he was made up to Champion and received a Register of Merit award for dogs that have produced at least ten champion get. 'Tucker' was followed ‘across the pond’ a year later by his full younger brother who became Ch Telvara Kopyright. ‘Sasha’ was tightly line-bred and produced champions in each litter. There is so much more to tell, but I'll not bore you with my bragging on this special girl with whom we are blessed to share every day. We have several of her teenage children here, and the respect they show this dear oldie is so endearing to watch. When I realised that the last photo I had of my girl was in the 1993 Year Book, my fear was that I would leave it too late to get a current picture of her 'in maturity', and then forever regret not having a memento of her to treasure. Sasha's Sire 'Ch. Telvara Top Hat' died just 5 weeks before his 17th birthday, so she's out-done her Dad by several months. She still has such attitude, and for me she's one very special little lady”

To visit homes such as Veronica’s and see the likes of “Sasha” and other veterans, is a testament to the dedication, passion and devotion many breeders have for the breed. Does this look and sound like the money grabbing, win at all cost, ego tripping monsters who have no regard for the health and welfare of the breed? Well that is what many decent breeders are being labelled and that is why many are thinking twice whether or not to go on breeding Cavaliers.



They will stop breeding Cavaliers such as Sasha. Why would they want to continue? When all they get is undue criticism, blamed for every ill that befalls the breed, crucified for doing nothing, even though they health test. Sad to read of someone lately who wrote that they had never seen a Cavalier over the age of 10 years and believed all that was written about their exaggerated demise and the ‘terrible’ people who had allowed the breed to get into such a state. ‘The proof of the pudding is in the eating’ so they say, well here is that proof. Cavaliers can have a good, long life and do. No one is denying there are problems. But pet owners get behind the breeders and give them the support and encouragement to carry on. That way, together, the breed will flourish. Hound them out and what are you left with. Puppy farmers and unscrupulous breeders who care nothing for the breed we love so much.

The Various Types of Breeders
People often have trouble telling the difference between the types of breeders that are out there. I once read this article written by Veronica Hull of Telvara Cavaliers, and have always found it to be so true!

WHAT IS?

a) ....A PUPPY FARMER?
They run an establishment which concentrates on the mass breeding of all the popular breeds. They do this on a shoestring budget, spending as little as possible on food, bedding, vet bills, and nothing at all on health testing, while reaping as much profit in the bank as possible. When breeding stock are 'surplus to requirements' they are disposed of. There is no love of the breeding animal, they are purely there to put money in the puppy farmer's bank.

b) .....A BACKYARD BREEDER?
Is someone who breeds for 'pin money' from KC (un-endorsed) registered animals bought from puppy farms or pet shops. They are ignorant of health issues, have no equipment, but very often will purchase a couple of pet females and one male to 'serve' them.... which they do on a very frequent basis. They breed with no restrictions, and sell with either no KC Papers, or with no breeding restrictions on the puppy, so buyers can also breed from the pet they buy. Sometimes these people work in groups so they can use each others' 'stud dogs' cheaply, they ruin breeds and have no interest in being educated because they are quite happy to sell untypical, sickly puppies to the unsuspecting public who think they are getting a bargain.

c) .......A COMMERCIAL BREEDER?
Can be a reputable breeder who tests for everything and cares deeply about the breed they own. The difference is they live from the profit of what they breed, and from stud fees.... Breeding and selling puppies IS their day job that pays the mortgage. They breed frequently, and have many puppies to chose from and are sometimes very successful in the show ring. Several commercial breeders are also respected judges and can belong to breed clubs. Very few commercial breeders have dogs on their sofas, and hardly ever keep their old retired dogs because old dogs cost money, and they are on a budget.... So they find a pet home for them to live out the rest of their lives in comfort.

d) ......A HOBBY BREEDER?
These are the breeders who have their dogs around them in the home, on the sofas, armchairs, and in the bed. They are the ones who spend top dollar on the best food they can get, and buy new comfy dog bedding at every opportunity. These breeders health test, many judge and belong to Breed Clubs. They very often show, and will travel anywhere to use the best stud dog to produce their next healthy litter, while hoping for something to be good enough to show. The rest of the litter is placed in carefully vetted pet homes. They are surrounded by their beloved oldies, and are bereft when they pass.... They forever have their hand in their pocket, and don't make a buttered bean in the way of profit....
This was originally posted here, on Chatterbox. I aspire to always be first and foremost, a great dog owner. Whether or not my dogs are shown doesn't matter. The most important point is that they are pets first before they are show dogs. I will never have more dogs than I can adequately care for, which in my case, means 6-8 dogs. They will NEVER live in cages or pens, and they will always be a part of the family. They will all be housetrained (really, this is the most important point for me. Any housetrained dog can have free reign of the house), and they will all know basic (and not so basic!) commands like sit, stay, come, stand, wait, etc.

One of these days, I'll go more in depth. But for now, I'm happy with the way my dogs live! They hang out with me whenever I'm home, watch me cook dinner, get to EAT some of my dinner, sleep on my bed, and go for daily walks. I reckon they are a couple of very satisfied dogs!

За это время мы вырастили много Чемпионов собственного разведения, которые носят приставку Telvara. Основной упор в разведении мы делаем на здоровье, долголетие и темперамент. Также важны красота и правильный тип в каждом из четырех окрасов. На протяжении 36 лет я регулярно выступала экспертом на выставках, в том числе и международных, а также занимала в Комитете Клуба ККЧС ряд постов, таких как Председатель регионального клуба ККЧС, представитель по вопросам здоровья породы, менеджер по выставкам. В настоящее время являюсь членом комитета главного в Великобритании CKCS Parent Club. Все наши Кавалеры - домашние любимцы. Мы очень выборочно подходим к разведению и получаем 1-2 тщательно спланированных помета в год. Все наши щенки растут в доме, они полностью социализированы, чипированы, застрахованы, зарегистрированы в клубе и проверены по здоровью. Мы их получаем только от проверенных на генетические заболевания родителей. Щенки уезжают в новый дом c пакетом щенка*, планом питания на 12 месяцев, родословной, но самое главное - мы обеспечиваем постоянную поддержку владельцам всех наших драгоценный щенков. Наташа, спасибо огромное за перевод. Честно говоря, я про этот питомник знала мало, но недавно увидела на сайте НКП РФ следующую информацию:

Питомник Лоранка знают все. Немного информации о нем есть и на нашем форуме. А вот питомник Тельвара больше известен в Англии, чем за ее пределами. Возможно это объясняется том, что в питомнике рождается не много щенков. Вязки ориентированы на результат, а не на количество. Оказалось, что в этом питомнике рождено 4 Чемпиона Англии - их фото есть выше ( а все мы знаем, как сложно получить Чемпионский титул в UK). В этом питомнике много долгожителей, что большая редкость в нашей породе.

Наша порода может гордится долголетием.
Поднимите бокал в честь "Саши" - Telvara Kandice Marie - маленькой леди, чье имя в 1993 году было вписано в CKCSC Championship Year Book после того, как стала Best Puppy in Show на Чемпионате Клуба. Все Кавалеры очень дороги, но "Саша" особенная. Спросите почему? Так вот, сейчас "Саше" 17 лет, 8 месяцев. Ее заводчик Veronica Hull очень гордится своей питомицей. Она пишет:"Как видите, ее когда-то каштановые пятна стали с возрастом совсем белыми (блондинистыми, точнее сказать!), но она полна жизни и не нуждается в медикаментозной поддержке. Ее страсть - еда, и она очень любит покушать. В целях разведения я перестала выставлять "Сашу", когда она получила свой первый СС (и BIS) и повязала ее с Ch Telvara Karbon Kopy. В этом помете родился Telvara Tpo Kopy, который в 13 месяцев уехал к Karen Ostmann в США, где получил титул Чемпиона, а также был награжден Register of Merit - награда, присуждаемая собакам, которые произвели не менее 10 чемпионов. Годом позже по другую сторону океана по стопам "Таккера" последовал его младший брат Ch Telvara Kopyright. "Саша" - результат тесного линейного разведения и она давала чемпионов в каждом помете. О ней можно много говорить, но я не буду много хвастаться этой особенной девочкой, с которой нам повезло вместе жить. У нас живут несколько ее детей, и так приятно наблюдать, как они проявляют к ней уважение. Когда я осознала, что последнее фото, которое у меня есть с этой собакой, было сделано в 1993 году для Year Book, я испугалась, что слишком запоздала с фото, на котором она была бы в полном расцвете сил. Ее отец Ch Telvara Top Hat умер за пять недель до ее 17-летия, таким образом она обошла отца на несколько месяцев. Она для меня очень особенная маленькая леди."

Посетить дом, такой как у Veronica Hull, увидеть таких собак, как "Саша" - значит ощутить любовь и преданность, которые многие заводчики испытывают к породе. Они не будут разводить таких Кавалеров как "Саша". Зачем продолжать? Если все, что они получат в ответ - критика и обвинения за все беды, которые случаются в породе, упреки за бездействие. Печально было прочесть недавно как кто-то написал, что не встречаются Кавалеры старше 10 лет и и о том, что "ужасные" люди довели породу до такого состояния. Говорят, "все проверяется на практике", вот и проверка. Кавалеры могут быть здоровы и могут жить долго. Никто не отрицает, что проблемы существуют, но порода процветает, если владельцы собак поддерживают заводчиков и помогают им двигаться вперед. Иначе остануться только фермеры и недобросовестные заводчики, которых порода, которую мы любим, совсем не волнует.

Типы заводчиков
Люди не всегда различают заводчиков разных типов. Однажды я прочла статью Вероники Халл и убедилась, что все на самом деле так, как она пишет.
Что такое?
а) фермер?
Организовывает свой бизнес с упором на массовое производство коммерческих пород. Бюджет очень ограничен. Минимум затрат на питание, содержание, ветеринаров и совсем нет расходов на проверки по здоровью. При этом есть желание получить максимум прибыли. Когда собака выходит из возраста разведения, от нее избавляются. Никакой любви к собакам не предполагается.

б) заводчик-непрофессионал?
Разводит собак ради небольшой прибыли от животных, зарегистрированных в клубе (не одобренных для разведения), приобретенных на ферме или в пет- магазине. Не задается вопросами здоровья, не имеет необходимого места для содержания, приобретает пару сук и одного кобеля и вяжет их довольно часто. Разводит собак без ограничений и продает щенков либо без документов, либо без ограничений по использованию их для разведения. Таким образом, покупатель может тоже использовать его в разведении. Иногда работают группами и используют в разведении собак друг друга за небольшие деньги. Не интересуются породой и довольствуются продажей нетипичных, больных щенков ничего не подозревающим покупателям, которые думают, что сделали выгодное приобретение.

в) заводчик-коммерсант?
Может быть заводчик с хорошей репутацией, который делает собакам тесты и заботится о своих питомцах. Разница в том, что он живет на то, что зарабатывает на разведении. Разведение и продажа щенков - его ежедневная работа. Часто получает пометы, может выбирать щенка из большого количества и иногда довольно успешно выставляет собак в ринге. Некоторые из таких заводчиков - успешные эксперты и члены клуба. Мало кто из них держит собак на диване и оставляет у себя стареющих собак, т.к. их содержание стоит денег. Для таких собак заводчик подыскивает любящий дом.

г) заводчик-любитель?
Собаки живут в доме свободно. Такой заводчик тратит много денег на питание собак, на создание комфорта для них. Проверяет собак по здоровью, многие выступают экспертами и являются членами породного клуба. Часто выставляет собак и может отправиться куда угодно за хорошим кобелем для следующего своего здорового помета, надеясь получить от этого помета собаку для шоу. Остальные щенки очень заботливо расходятся в надежные руки. Стареющие собаки живут в доме с заводчиком, когда они умирают, он переживает большую утрату. Он всегда готов потратить на собак деньги и не получает большой прибыли от своего занятия.

Изначально это было опубликовано на Chatterbox. Я стремлюсь быть в первую очередь владельцем собак. Выставляются мои собаки или нет - не важно. Важно то, что они - любимцы, в первую очередь, а потом только они - собаки для шоу. Я никогда не заведу больше собак, чем могу достойно содержать. В моем случае это 6-8. Они никогда не будут жить в клетках, всегда будут частью семьи. Они получат домашнее воспитание и будут знать основные команды: сидеть, стоять, ко мне, ждать и т.д.
Сейчас я довольна, тем, как живут мои собаки! Они везде следуют за мной по дому, наблюдают, как я готовлю еду, делятся моей едой, спят в моей кровати, ходят на прогулки. Думаю, они довольны жизнью!
